Colourful Kitchen Design

Who doesn’t LOVE colour! This Moroccan kitchen design is one of the most colourful kitchen designs I have done – by far. My client was definitely not afraid to use colour in her new kitchen! The deep orange tone is a great contrasting colour to the white and navy finish on the kitchen cabinetry.

If you are looking for some unique and interesting ways to introduce some colour in your kitchen, painting the walls a vibrant colour can uplift any space.

Don’t you just LOVE this gorgeous mosaic backsplash tile?! Upon finding this Moroccan- inspired glass mosaic tile we knew this was the ONE and it was the main element that pulled the entire design together.

Mixed Cabinet Doors

Can you tell that this kitchen is a mix of two different cabinet door species?

The upper cabinets are a thermofoil shaker door in a white finish, whereas the base cabinets are a painted MDF shaker door in a navy finish. Selecting thermofoil cabinets, as opposed to painted MDF cabinets for the uppers, my client was able to save on some of the cabinetry costs. This allowed my clients to invest those savings in other areas of the kitchen. The design process is all about making decisions, trade-offs and allotting your budget to where YOU feel it is best spent.

Improved Kitchen Layout

This new kitchen configuration, compared to before, provides an improved layout and flow. There are now specific designated areas that do not impede each other. There is a clearly defined area for cleaning, cooking, food prep, food storage, coffee/tea, and perhaps some additional wine storage.

No walls were removed in this new design; however, the overall size of the kitchen space was essentially doubled. The new design provides so much more usable storage which is such an important factor when designing a kitchen.

This large island provides a perfect area for food prep and, most importantly, baking! The soft close spring-assisted appliance lift lets you easily raise your mixer to countertop level and returns it to your cabinet for convenient storage. This was a must-have requirement for my client!

Did you know that the flooring is a vinyl glue-down tile? This durable product is ideal if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking or baking as it is much more comfortable for standing. Adding grout provides yet another element to mimic porcelain tile.
