Most individuals assume granite countertops are heat and stain-resistant. What you may not be aware of is the fact that granite may discolour and stain if it is not properly sealed.
You will want to avoid using any harsh chemical cleaners and acidic foods (especially if you have a light countertop).
It is also important to know that granite surfaces can be damaged by sudden or a rapid change of temperature. You do not want take a hot pot off the stove and place it directly on a cold countertop.
Please keep in mind that granite can be damaged by force and nothing is chip-proof.
I recommend that no matter what type of countertop you install, to always use a cutting board or hot pad. This will not only protect your countertop, but your knives and cookware will thank you.
