This new design from our Canbury Interior Design Project opens up the entire main floor to the dining room and provides a more functional layout for our clients.

Open Concept Kitchen with Contrasting Island

We take pride in our ability to create stunning and functional kitchen designs that meet the unique needs of our clients. By reconfiguring spaces and removing walls between the kitchen, family and dining rooms, we were able to create a new floorplan layout. Moving the existing family room to the front of the home, and opening up the kitchen to a new dining area with a feature fireplace, left room to design a generously sized island finished in a contrasting colour to the perimeter cabinetry.  The new open view to the dining room highlights the fireplace, updated with a robust mantle and new Terracraft natural stone veneer in Swansea marble, applied from the floor to the ceiling.  

Warm Colour Palette

In the Canbury Interior Design Project our intentional choice of finishes and materials has resulted in a well-designed and dynamic kitchen space.

The Zenith Quartz Arbescato countertops are a great choice as they offer a durable and low-maintenance surface that can withstand everyday wear and tear. The use of a classic satin white finish for the shaker kitchen cabinets provides a timeless and versatile backdrop that can complement a variety of other design elements. The painted Nimbus finish on the large island adds a touch of contrast and interest to the overall design, making it a focal point in the space. 

The choice of a grigio-coloured glossy backsplash tile installed in a linear chevron pattern plays off the neutral matte finish of the engineered hardwood throughout the main floor.

Backsplash Tiles

By using a chevron pattern in your backsplash, you can create a timeless and stylish look that will remain relevant for years to come. The linear chevron look of the backsplash tiles provides a beautifully textured design element against the simplicity of the white shaker cabinets and Arbescato quartz countertop. 

Hardwood Floor 

A wide plank hardwood floor installed throughout the main floor of the home provides a seamless and durable floor option for this kitchen design.

The ultra-matte finish in a warm neutral tone softens the natural light filtering through the space. The use of the same floor material throughout the kitchen, dining, and living areas balances the entire main floor and makes the space feel generous in size. 

Appealing Black Finishes

Lighting and finish selections are important aspects of any well-designed space, and we took great care with our selections. The warm colour palette is complemented by a choice of black stainless steel appliances. A matte black finish has been chosen for the single pull-out faucet, hardware pulls, and knobs, and a virtuo granite single undermount sink in pearl black, creating a cohesive design. The four black and glass pendant lights in the kitchen emphasize the generous size of the island and provide excellent ambient and task lighting.

Main Floor Improvements

With the kitchen and dining rooms completely reconfigured, the renovation was extended to include new finishes and upgrades in the entry, living room, and main staircase.   All main floor walls were painted using Benjamin Moore Pale Oak, and new moldings using Chantilly Lace.  The Fjord tile collection in the colour “ice” is a stunning choice for the new entryway floor that helps to set the tone for the rest of the home. The 24 x 24 tile size is a great option for larger spaces and can help to create a sense of openness and flow.
