Open concept kitchen
When working in older homes, the kitchen tends to be closed off from the rest of the home. This was one of the main reasons why our clients wanted to renovate their kitchen. Along with the fact that the kitchen was original, and clearly, not their style. Explore the Homestead Kitchen Design.
In order to create an open concept kitchen, we simply removed the wall between the existing kitchen and dining room.
This allowed us to add a small peninsula – the perfect place for eating breakfast or watching the kids while cooking dinner.
Working with the existing layout
It’s always helpful to work within the existing layout of the kitchen when possible – of course, that is if the existing layout is functional – that is the most important factor.
Since our clients liked the existing functionality of their kitchen, we simply improved it with a few small modifications.
The fridge was relocated to create a dedicated area specifically for food storage. We prefer to place all pantry cabinets beside the fridge for ease of access and for aesthetic purposes.
We designed a drop zone to the right of the fridge that is used as a charging station and display.
Two-toned Kitchen Design
White and navy kitchen designs are still a hot commodity.
We opted for the two-toned colour palette in this kitchen design. We carried the white cabinets into the pantry to keep the space bright and differentiate this area from the main kitchen.
The white and navy cabinets are complimented with stained maple floating shelves throughout the kitchen and pantry.
Walk-in Pantry
In order to provide additional storage, we designed this walk-in pantry with a beautiful arched doorway.
The pantry provides ample storage for extra food and kitchen items that aren’t necessarily used on a daily basis. While still being accessible.
The extra counter space is perfect for a coffee station and to place all large appliances which would take up space in the main section of the kitchen.
Classic Finishes
Adding classic finishes such as this beautiful granite countertop and textured backsplash tile really add an elegant touch to the overall design.
The calm colour scheme of the backsplash complemented by picturesque time-worn decorative elements is designed to highlight the characteristic beauty of naturally aged tiles. Perfect for creating a quaint yet contemporary rustic look.
Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Having two young children, we chose this durable luxury vinyl plank flooring in a mid-tone. This waterproof SPC floating floor is of high quality, realistic with natural embossing and a full wide bevel edge detail to imitate hardwood flooring.
Gold & Black Accent Details
The kitchen is accented with gold mini-pendant light fixtures above the sink peninsula and cabinet hardware pulls throughout. It wouldn’t be complete without this sleek matte black pull-down kitchen faucet.
Thank you so much for all of your hard work Dawn!
You have really gone above and beyond with helping us get organized and keep us moving along with our kitchen design.
