Kitchen design

Small doesn’t have to mean boring when it comes to kitchen design.

When I am working on a small kitchen design, I make sure that each cabinet has a specific function and use – as space is limited. I need to be intentional with each feature and how I plan the layout and design of the cabinets.

In a small kitchen footprint, you need to maximize every square inch of the space to make sure you utilize it appropriately.

That is precisely what I did here with this kitchen design.

Working with an existing footprint

When you have a small kitchen, staying within the existing layout and keeping all appliances and plumbing fixtures in the same location can still provide a beautiful transformation as you can see here.

In order to open up the interior space, partition walls and bulkheads were removed to add more cabinet space. It’s amazing how much space you can gain.

It’s all about the details

The upper cabinets were installed to the ceiling to maximize storage space.

Interior cabinet accessories such as “blind corner rev-a-shelf organized” were included to easily access all cookware.

There is now a designated servery area for coffee, drinks, additional storage.

Additional pantry storage along the entire wall provides ample food storage.

Increased the depth of the peninsula to add even more storage as well as countertop space for food prep.

Of course, adding new decorative lighting throughout is key. New pot lights, mini pendants over the peninsula, under cabinet cabinet lighting, and a new dining fixture on dimmable switches provide many opportunities to control and create various lighting scenes.

The kitchen wouldn’t be complete without an expandable dining table to offer additional seating for the family when they come over for Sunday dinners.

You can’t go wrong with white cabinets

The classic white shaker-style cabinets really brighten up the kitchen. This cabinet style is perfect for those who prefer a contemporary and traditional style kitchen.

Kitchen trends can be short-lived. If you are planning to invest in kitchen cabinets that can last a very long time, choose white shaker kitchen cabinets. Shaker-style kitchen cabinets remain as universally popular today as ever.
