Our Elegant Espresso Kitchen Project is a perfect example of how a well-executed kitchen and mudroom renovation can completely transform the way you live in your home. With its warm, brushed finishes, espresso-inspired quartzite surfaces, and elegant, thoughtful details, this project blends timeless style with everyday functionality. Improving Kitchen Layout and Flow
The original kitchen was cramped and closed off, with an outdated layout that failed to meet the needs of the homeowners. A non-functional fireplace took up valuable space and disrupted the flow, while a dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room made the area feel even more confined.
To open up the space, we began by removing the wall, connecting the kitchen to the dining area and allowing natural light to pour in. Removing the fireplace not only cleared valuable floor space but also allowed us to extend the kitchen wall, creating room for full-height cabinetry. This newly expanded wall now features full-height cabinetry that houses the refrigerator, a spacious pantry, a drop zone, and a double wall oven.
This reconfigured layout dramatically improves the flow between rooms and provides much-needed space for storage, food prep, and gathering.
Elegant Cabinet Colours and Finishes
Choosing the right colours was essential to achieving the timeless yet fresh look our clients desired. The main kitchen cabinets are finished in Brushed Aluminum by Benjamin Moore, a soft grey with subtle warmth and depth that serves as a neutral canvas.
To maintain a cohesive aesthetic, we selected shaker-style doors and paired them with a mix of champagne bronze handles and knobs. These warm metallic accents add a refined glow, elevating the space without overwhelming the soft, muted colour palette.
Custom Kitchen Features and Storage
In contrast, the custom full-height pantry, designed to function as a hutch, was finished in Elephant Ear by Sherwin-Williams. This deep, moody tone adds depth and richness, perfectly anchoring the back wall of the kitchen. It also creates a subtle visual divide between the kitchen and dining area, enhancing the sense of flow while maintaining distinction between the two spaces. Designed to resemble a piece of fine furniture, it features reeded glass doors that soften its appearance while providing practical storage with a hutch-like appeal.
A custom-designed hood fan was seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry, preserving clean lines and architectural harmony. Other appliance upgrades include a double wall oven, ideal for larger meals and entertaining, and a panel-ready dishwasher that blends effortlessly into the surrounding cabinetry.
Multifunctional Kitchen Island Design
The large kitchen island is a standout feature, designed with seating for four to create a social hub for both everyday family life and entertaining. In addition to seating, the island includes an under-counter beverage centre. A convenient detail that keeps drinks cool and easily accessible without disrupting workflow.
Above the island, three brushed gold pendants with opal white glass shades cast a soft, inviting glow that complements the overall design. Above the farmhouse-style porcelain sink, a matching flush-mount ceiling fixture provides warm ambient light, tying the space together beautifully.
Matching Quartz Backsplash and Countertop
The countertops and backsplash are fabricated from Le Blanc quartz by HanStone, an inspired choice that combines beauty with durability. Extending the same material from the counters up the wall creates a clean, seamless look that feels both modern and timeless. The quartz’s grey base, delicate white veining, and warm espresso accents evoke the elegance of natural quartzite, adding artistic depth while remaining easy to clean and maintain. This cohesive surface treatment minimizes visual clutter and grout lines, offering a sophisticated and low-maintenance solution.
Floating shelves installed to the right of the refrigerator create a light, airy drop zone perfect for cookbooks, decorative accents, and a dedicated coffee station and bar area. This versatile open storage solution enhances functionality while maintaining the kitchen’s clean, streamlined aesthetic.
Improved Mudroom Design
To complement the kitchen renovation, the existing mudroom was expanded into the garage, creating much-needed space for everyday organization. Custom benches made from natural oak offer ample seating and add a warm, welcoming touch.
Above, champagne bronze hooks paired with classic board and batten paneling provide a stylish and practical solution for coats, bags, and daily essentials. The mudroom floor features patterned porcelain tiles inspired by early 20th-century Havana cement designs. With seven geometric patterns in soft greys, these tiles add texture and visual interest while honouring traditional design elements.
