Aberdeen Delight Interior Design Project

We are excited to introduce our latest endeavor, the Aberdeen Delight Interior Design Project. This collaboration allowed us to embrace our clients’ passion for vibrant colours and country aesthetics while ensuring the design remained timeless and practical for a large family with several pets. The result is a lively yet enduringly stylish space that perfectly blends modern rustic elements with personal touches. From the striking cabinetry to the playful tile accents, every detail was thoughtfully selected to rejuvenate the heart of their home.

Design: Transforming the Kitchen Layout

Our design journey began with rethinking the kitchen layout to better serve the needs of a large family and numerous pets. The existing layout was restrictive, limiting storage and functionality. We addressed this issue by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, creating a more open and spacious kitchen, dining & living area.

This change allowed us to add a large island, providing a central gathering spot for the family and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, this adjustment enabled us to introduce more storage solutions and incorporate a coffee station as requested by the clients.

Cabinetry: A Blend of Aesthetic and Practicality

Next, we focused on selecting kitchen cabinets in timeless shaker style with three exquisite finishes: Frappe, Aberdeen, and Drizzle. With the expanded kitchen now lining a long wall, these colours add visual interest and balance to the space. This choice also allowed our clients to infuse their personality and aesthetic preferences into the design.

We then extended the beautiful light blue ‘Starless’ colour to the custom millwork in the mudroom. This addition provides practical storage for the family and creates a cohesive, intentional look throughout the house.

Lighting: Enhancing Character and Illumination

Lighting played a crucial role in adding character to the space. Over the island, we installed the Joelle fixture, which exudes a country vibe, transforming and personalizing the area. We chose a chandelier from the same collection to illuminate the adjacent dining area, ensuring a harmonious design. This collection blends modern style with cozy farmhouse aesthetics, echoing the feeling of a welcoming rustic atmosphere.

Quartz Countertop: Timeless Elegance

The countertops feature Hanstone Calacatta Gold, a stunning quartz with large, sweeping veins set against a crisp white background. This resilient surface not only adds a touch of luxury but also serves as the perfect complement to the cabinetry, unifying the room’s finishes. The warm tones within the veining pull together the various design elements, creating a cohesive and inviting space that’s both elegant and functional for everyday cooking.

Tiles: Adding Personality and Playfulness

Reflecting our client’s vibrant personality, we opted for tiles with fun patterns. The kitchen backsplash features the Carpet collection, with bold variations in two complementary tones, resulting in a dynamic yet cohesive look that enhances the overall design.

In the powder room, we selected a soft blue backsplash to add a fun yet elegant touch, blending with the overall design. The floor tiles in both the powder room and mudroom feature an ornate grey pattern, adding subtle playfulness and character while effectively hiding dirt, bringing timeless beauty to the space.

Black Accents: Subtle Contemporary Touches

Modern, simple-shaped faucets and hardware add a touch of contemporary flair to the updated space. These sleek elements provide a striking contrast against the rustic elements, creating a balanced blend of old and new. This approach was carried throughout the home, tying the various spaces together. By integrating these subtle contemporary touches, we were able to elevate the farmhouse style, making it both current and enduring.

Fireplace: A Fun Gathering Space for the Family

To add personality to the living room, we rebuilt the fireplace with shiplap installed in a horizontal pattern and painted to match the Aberdeen finish of the kitchen island cabinets. The green shiplap, paired with a wood mantle, creates a cohesive connection between the living room and the kitchen. Custom benches in the Frappe finish flank the fireplace, providing both extra seating and cleverly designed storage solutions.

This design not only transforms the fireplace into a striking focal point but also creates a cozy spot for family gatherings. The combination of thoughtful design elements ensures the space remains functional and inviting, making it the perfect hub for family activities and relaxation.
