A Warm and Stylish Main Floor Renovation

When our clients purchased their home, they loved the layout. They felt the existing finishes were too dark and didn’t reflect their mid-century modern aesthetic. They envisioned a space that was lighter, more inviting, and better suited to their style. To achieve this, we transformed the main floor with new hardwood flooring, contemporary large-format tiles, and a refreshed kitchen with a bold yet balanced colour palette. The fireplace was given a modern update with a sleek new surround and floating mantle The powder room was completely redesigned to make a statement. The result is a cohesive, stylish, and functional space that seamlessly blends warmth with modern sophistication.

A Warm and Stylish Flooring Transformation

One of the most impactful changes was replacing the existing flooring. The new Hard Maple hardwood in a Gunstock finish instantly brightened the space while adding warmth and character. We installed 36”x36” tiles from the Norwich Collection in Pearl Matte in the kitchen. A refined and contemporary ceramic slab that enhances the architectural feel of the space.

The foyer and powder room floors feature 36”x36” Venezia Rialto Cream tiles, inspired by Venetian terrazzo. These tiles introduce a high-contrast triangular geometric pattern with an art deco sensibility, setting the tone for the home’s modern yet timeless aesthetic. To elevate the powder room even further, we extended these patterned tiles up the back wall behind the vanity. Creating a seamless and striking design element.

Refinishing the Kitchen with Rich, Contrasting Colors

Rather than replacing the kitchen cabinetry, we opted for a refinishing approach to maintain the existing layout while dramatically transforming the aesthetic. The base cabinets were refinished in Benjamin Moore Abyss (#2128-20), a deep, bold hue that grounds the space, while the upper cabinets were painted in Silver Song (#1557), a soft, sophisticated contrast that brightens the room.

To complement this fresh color palette, we installed brushed gold handles for a touch of warmth and elegance. The island now features a new Hanstone Calacatta Extra quartz countertop with a stunning waterfall edge, where crisp white tones are accentuated by bold ribbons of taupe and grey with delicate onyx veins for a truly captivating look.

A Unique and Custom Kitchen Backsplash

For an added layer of visual interest, we designed a truly unique and custom backsplash that serves as a standout feature in the kitchen. Using tiles from the Stripes Collection—known for its versatility and pattern flexibility—we created a one-of-a-kind starburst pattern by combining white and décor tiles. This dynamic focal point adds depth, movement, and a personalized touch, beautifully complementing the cabinetry and countertops while making a bold design statement.

A Statement Fireplace Update

The original fireplace lacked character and didn’t align with our client’s vision. To transform it, we re-faced it with Venezia Rialto Cream tiles in a polished finish, tying it in with the foyer and powder room for a cohesive look. A reclaimed wood floating mantle was added to introduce warmth and texture, blending modern and natural elements effortlessly.

A Bold and Elegant Powder Room Design

The powder room was designed to make an impact while maintaining harmony with the rest of the main floor. The Black Walnut Vanity brings warmth and richness to the space, topped with an arctic white quartz countertop for a sleek, timeless look. Matte black hidden pulls offer a seamless, minimalist touch.

To complement the vanity, we selected a champagne gold single-hole faucet and matching bathroom accessories, adding a layer of refined elegance. Above the vanity, a black-framed mirror with curved edges softens the space while maintaining a modern aesthetic. This versatile mirror is framed in sleek matte black iron, making it ideal for contemporary interiors.

The vanity light fixture completes the space, offering a perfect blend of modern simplicity and subtle sophistication. This light fixture proves that even the smallest details can have a big impact. With aged gold brass and black rods, paired with a glass shade, it enhances the powder room’s warm yet contemporary aesthetic, adding the perfect finishing touch.
